Frequently asked questions

5 Most frequently asked questions about Saige

We endeavor to make your ultrasound as comfortable as possible and that often starts before you come in.
Clothes: Pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasounds will need to access the lowest parts of your abdomen (near your pubic bone) and often come with a recommendation for an internal ultrasound. We recommend coming in comfortable clothing which will allow the sonographer to scan your pelvis. You won’t need to change into a gown but we provide linen sheets to provide cover throughout the examinations.
Drinking and eating: No one wants a busting bladder! The reception staff will provide specific instructions for your type of ultrasound but in general we will never ask you to hold your bladder for more than an hour. And thankfully there is no need to fast for a pelvic or pregnancy scan so you can continue to eat and drink as you normally do through the day until an hour before your appointment.

Not all ultrasounds will require an internal examination however there are many times where the internal will give the most accurate examination. But you are in charge of what you are comfortable doing. Our wonderful sonographers are all female and are fabulous at explaining the internal exam procedure and the benefits it has. If you have been referred for an ultrasound procedure, some of our procedural doctors are male and you will be informed of this before the appointment.

Despite our wonderful staff, bringing someone with you to your ultrasound appointment is always welcomed. You can take your pick how close you want them - We have chairs next to the examination bed, on the other side of the curtain, or you can ask them to wait for you in the waiting area. The rooms can get crowded quick though so we would ask to limit your support people to 2.

We would love to be able to bulk bill every ultrasound. Unfortunately, the current medicare rebates for women’s health ultrasound remain extremely low and cannot cover the costs of ultrasound equipment and staff. As such we need to apply out of pocket costs to our ultrasound with concession rates for card holders. A complete list of costs can be found here
We regularly review our ultrasound service to ensure we are undertaking ultrasound with sufficient time to deliver an excellent service whilst keeping the practice viable. At the request of your referrer, we will aim to provide bulk billing.

Shortly after your ultrasound has been finished you will receive a link to your email address that will provide all the saved images from your scan. The formal report from your scan takes 24-36 hours to be finalised and will be sent to your referring team at that time. You will be able to access the report for yourself 7 days after your scan.

Most ultrasound will take approximately 30 minutes with the exception of the 1st trimester anatomy scan (approx. 40min), Deep endometriosis ultrasounds (approx. 40min), and morphology ultrasound (approx 60min). The actual time to take your ultrasound will vary based on the complexity of your condition and, in the case of pregnancy ultrasound, how well the baby behaves.
We request you allow 15min prior to your appointment time to park, find the practice, and complete any forms. We aim to keep out appointments to time and delays in patient arrival can impact the remainder of patients for the day.
